Professor R.C. Malhotra

SIG is fortunate to have a person of stature of Professor R.C. Malhotra (Former Director IIT Kanpur) as one of our distinguished patrons.
Prof. Malhotra is a visionary and true multi faceted personality. While at IIT Kanpur , he has been instrumental in motivating the faculty members and students alike in pushing the frontiers of academic and research excellence. His focus has been on dissemination of new knowledge and creating an environment where individuals are self driven to pursue areas of interest. He was always on the forefront to create opportunities for seminal work so as to be able to stand in the forefront of technological break through. He ensured the relevance of academic and research activities by stepping up the interaction and integration with the industry. He can truly be called an institution builder.

Professor Mihir Deb

Prof. Mihir deb has honoured SIG by being our patron. SIG looks up to him for guidance , inspiration and motivation. His vast reservoir of knowledge and experience have been tremendously helpful in shaping SIG as it is today. At times of crisis , we know we have his able guidance to pass through it.
Prof Mihir Deb has had immeasurable experience while working in University of Delhi as Head/Chairman of various committee/Departments/Missions. University depends on him for his infinite capability to diffuse any crisis.

Educated in Presidency College and Jadavpur University , Calcutta , Prof Mihir Deb joined the department of Geology at Delhi University as Lecturer in 1970. He went to City University of New York and University of Arizona , Tucson in USA for post doctoral work between 1974-75. He was the recipient of Alexander von Humboldt fellowship at the Geochemisches Institute in Gottingen , Germany between 1984-86. He has traveled extensively for geological studies in north and south America , Europe , SE Asia , Iran , Mongolia , China and Japan and has conducted 10 large government and industry – sponsored research projects. He has been a Professor of Geology since 1993 , Head of Deptt. From 2000-2003 , Director , USIC from 2000-2006 and Director in the school of Environmental Studies since 2004. He is a fellow of the society in Economic Geologists (USA) and Indian National Science Academy. He has guided 10 Ph.D. students so far and has about 75 scientific research publications to his credit.
